We are staying for a week in February in Hotel Ercoli on Via Collina, 48. We have breakfast included in the price of the room (anybody can comment on the quality of the food in this hotel?), but sometimes we prefer to get something more substantial in the morning or get some food for the rest of day in order to avoid restaurants near tourist sites.
Are there any grocery stores near by where we can buy bread, cheese, cold cuts etc and if yes, what are typical opening hours? Any restaurants opened in the morning that serve food beyond typical Italian breakfast (coffee and pastry)? I am a foodie and used to eating pretty much anything so it doesn't have to be Italian food (as long as it is not a McDonald's or another fast food chain).
Last but not least, is the bread in Italy still as bad as it was 20 years ago? I live in US now but I grew up in Europe so on my first visit to Rome as a student, I couldn't be believe how tasteless was the bread.
