Last night my wife and I dined at a new place (just opened three weeks ago) in Williamsburg called La Brunette. It's located on N.6th Street, just off the Brooklyn-Queens expressway. While the service was a tad inept (friendly, but not knowledgeable), the food was delicious. For an appetizer we shared a bowl of pumpkin soup, which, thankfully, was not too sweet. For entrees: my wife had ratatouille with grilled polenta and I had a boneless, grilled whole trout with brandade(potatoes and codfish) and haricot verts (French string beans). The wines were good, as well (merlot and bordeaux (sp?)). Above the restaurant is a bar/lounge called, quite aptly, BQE. Since we were already semi-drunk from happy hour at Union Pool, we decided to save the after-dinner drink for our next visit. All in all, a pleasant evening.
