Restaurant Week Report #1: Hamersley's

mmm something | Aug 19, 2003 10:58 AM

I'm sure these all have fancier, more descriptive names on the menu, but here it is filtered through my foggy brain:

Green Salad with Deviled Egg
A nice little salad with half of a surprisingly spicy deviled egg on top. I wouldn't order it personally, but was happy to taste my girlfriend's.

Corn Bisque with some kind of Crostini
Very tasty soup, sweet and full of corn flavor. Unremarkable skinny little crostini on top provided a nice contrast in texture, though not much in the way of flavor.

Medallions of Monkfish with Garlic Clams on the Half Shell
Very tasty. Firm mild flavored monkfish medallions on a bed of something with 3 grilled or roasted or baked garlic clams in the half shell.

Summer Lamb Stew with something
One rib chop, tasty & cooked medium (if I'd known there was a chop involved, I'd have asked for it medium rare), plus some nice chunks of what must have been deboned lamb shank. Really nice, sweet, earthy flavor. There were probably some carrots or raisins or potatoes or something in there too. Hey, it's a stew.

Lemon flan with a slice of flourless chocolate cake & creme anglaise.
Sweet, tangy, light flan with a nicely contrasted dense, chocolate cake.

Anyway, as a whole, the meal was very enjoyable, particularly for such a reasonable price. Maybe if I were paying full menu prices I'd be disappointed, but for $30.03, that was a great meal.

Report #2 coming from Rialto on Friday.
