Just got back from lunch at the River Cafe. Had the Restaurant Week menu.
They offer 3 appetizers: green salad with blue cheese dressing, corn chowder or a cheese ravioli - and choice of 2 entrees: niman ranch pork or Artic Char and 2 desserts: upside down banana cake or ice cream sundae.
I was disappointed. The green salad was ok but it was served with 2 mushy anemic tomatoes and the corn chowder was fine, albeit a bit thin - nothing to write home about. The miso and wild rice surrounding the Artic Char was good, but the Artic Char itself was nothing special and the Niman Ranch pork was overcooked and dry and lacking in flavor. The banana cake was all right - but a bit dry and the ice cream sundae came with mediocre fudge sauce and vanilla ice cream that was a bit bland - not enough vanilla to it. All in all - mediocre at best. Place was packed and I'd say 75% of those there ordered off the restaurant week menu and most looked to be tourists.
Am I too harsh? are my expectations too high? did anyone else try it?
