Restaurant Update - Amelia Island

marelyisdead | Jul 10, 2010 10:06 AM

A fellow hound asked for an Amelia Island update for those who visit this little slice of NE FLA. So here goes.

New and good
Merge - downtown on S 8th at Elm. Chef Adam sears has a creative, seafood driven menu with an excellent wine list.
Kelley's Court Yard on S. 3rd in the old La Bodega spot. Beautiful garden setting with a solid salad and sandwich menu. Dinner specials are determined by what is fresh and available. Very limited wine list. Chef Michael Gass has very good grits and greens and don't miss the shrimp.
Lulu's at the Thompson House on S. 11th. Chef Brian offers oyster and shrimp po'boys, crabcakes, fish tacos. Dinner specials. Good wine list. Nice patio seating.

Old faves
Arte Pizza on N. 3rd. Tonino is from Capri and cooks like he never left Italy. The best pizza I have had anywhere. Pasta specials are very good. Saturday and Sunday brunch are hearty and very tasty...try the eggs in purgatory. Very limited wine list.
Espana. Probably the best food on the island. Chef Roberto cooks Portuguese and Spanish specialties. try the spicy grouper.
Le Clos. Chef Katherine puts a light French touch on every plate. Excellent service under the direction of Julie.

For full reviews, ratings and menus go to Urbanspoon Jax/Fernandina Beach. BTW...this is a small island and real estate is very expensive. This means that all restaurants are small and the tables are close together. Tourists are always whining about "how close the tables are." Too bad. Deal with it.

Arte Pizza

Le Clos
20 S 2nd St, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034

Espana Restaurant
