In assessing what makes the best restaurant in Toronto I believe there should be a few criteria:
1. It's ability to consistently deliver exceptional dining experiences;
2. It's longevity;
3. It's ability to deliver uniq world-class dishes time and again;
4. Excellent decor, ambiance and service.
These threads are usually loaded with pro-O&B sentiments so I fully expect to see Canoe and Aubierge mentioned consistently. There is no disputing that these are very fine establishments but these are not world-class restaurants.
For me, it doesn't get any better in Toronto than Splendido. I've enjoyed several world-class dishes but two in particular give me goosebumps every time I mention them: Elk Carpaccio and Homemade Blood Sausage. The ambiance is gorgeous, elegant and comfortable. And the service is spot on.
After traveling abroad for a decade, I'm pretty underwhelmed with restaurants in this city and my only other experience that has been notable was my meal at Inn on the Twenty in Jordan, ON.
I'm really hoping there are some other gems out there -- what's the best in your opinion? I've heard Terra is exceptional but I haven't made it that for north yet.
