Restaurant Steak Frites St-Paul

I went to Steak Frites St-Paul last night for dinner (the location on Laurier) and all in all it was a good experience.

There were two of us, so we shared the Calamari to start (upon recommendation from our server) and were very happy with it. It was fried, as opposed to grilled, and relatively lightly breaded - which was nice - and came with a great sauce.

We then both had the 9 ounce Steak Frites with the Steak Frites sauce (when in Rome...). It came with a little salad in between the appetizer and the steak itself, which didn't do much for me. It was just some lettuce, a bit of onion and some dressing. It wasn't BAD per se, it just sort of...was.

The steaks themselves were very good. I ordered rare, but unfortunately it came out more medium. I'm not going to hold that against them though, they were very tender and mistakes happen. The (unlimited) fries were pretty good also, pretty much what you would expect.

We also shared a desert, a chocolate molten with a scoop of ice cream, which was a great way to end a decadent meal.

The only drawbacks were (as I mentioned above) my steak was over cooked, and they were slightly understaffed so service was a bit slow (and I really do mean just a tiny bit)

All in all, for $60 + wine (its BYOW) + tip I would definitely go back.
