There's an interesting article about secrets your restaurant won't tell you in an AOL Smart Money section. It lists ten 'secrets' - well, I know many 'hounds already know that eating out on Valentine's Day will have jacked up prices and crowds galore. I found certain points of interest like:
--Restaurant markups and extra unexpected charges.
--Substitution of food and ingredients; i.e., the menu says Chilean Sea Bass but the resto substitutes Patagonian toothfish and puts truffle oil in with regular mushrooms and says the dish contains truffles!
--Chefs using frozen foods or prepared ingredients.
