I was up in Myrtle Beach last weekend for a convention, and I was astounded by the restaurant scene — or lack thereof — there. I literally could not find an appealing place to eat. Money/atmosphere was no object.
A quick look at the top seven restaurants in Myrtle Beach on TripAdvisor tells it all. Four of the top seven restaurants were Italian, and the seventh of the top seven was Krispy Kreme.
Am I missing something here? Nothing continental, no high-end steak house, no outstanding seafood? Nothing Low Country?
I tried all of the restaurant aps (Urban Spoon, Yelp, Open Table) hoping I’d find some place that was appealing. Nada. I did find a decent neighborhood-type bar called Bumstead’s that had good deli sandwiches, but that was about it.
I’ll admit that I’m spoiled living in Charleston, but I felt like I had crossed into an Iron Curtain country
