Need Restaurant Recommendations For NYC Trip

rlc | Jul 20, 2003 12:07 AM

I am in dire need of assistance. My wife and I will be in NYC for one night, August 10 (Sunday). We will arrive midday on Sunday and leave mid-afternoon Monday. We have not been to NYC in well over ten years. We are thinking of staying at the Plaza. We use to love to walk between the Park and Rockefeller Center.

I have been reading the board and fell in love with Babbo’s. Went to their site, read their menu. God, I’m drooling. However, I assume that it would cost a fortune to cab down from the Plaza. Is there anything similar closer to our tentative location? It would not have to be pasta, just creative and (somewhat) relaxed.

I can’t say that price is not relevant. Retirement and shrinking portfolios tend to rule out revisiting Lutece or Le Bernardin (not that we got to go that often).

I realize this is all rather vague. If it helps any, one of my favorite evenings in NYC was at Union Square Cafe, wonderful food with a neighborhood atmosphere. I also remember the sea bass I had at the Gotham Bar & Grill. And, the best pasta I’ve ever had was in a Northern Italian restaurant somewhere on the Upper East Side.

Thanks much.
