Travelled to Orlando last weekend from Pensacola to bring my daughter to UCF for a visit. After reading several reviews here on CH my first choice in town was the Ravenous Pig couldnt get a res a few days before dinner, so we chose K. Thanks. Btw Yosemite Sam, your threads here are invaluble.
I really liked the location of the place very neat layout. Our server was great. He was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the food. I think his name was Mike.
We ordered their cheese plate and also their cured meat tray. The server apologized about the lack of cheese choices they had that day. They had like 4 to choose from where I'm told they usually have 8 or 9. Didn’t bother me, the ones we had were excellent...especially the smoked blue. Meat tray had some Speck, Soprasatta and Prosciutto along with these great pickled grapes. Fantastic stuff.
My wife and I shared the bbq shrimp app. This might have been my favorite thing all night. Great bold flavor and the cheese grits they were atop were amazing. We eat in NOLA a lot and have had LOTS of different versions of bbq shrimp, this one was memorable.
I had ordered the heirloom tomato caprese salad and my wife the bibb salad. The server came back to the table apologizing that they were out of fresh mozzarella and that they would substitute with feta but that didn't interest me so I went with their "Stack" salad. Which is essentially heirloom tomatoes stacked with goat cheese layers. It was good. The quality of the produce here was excellent. The goat cheese was a little much and I felt the tomatoes (which again were excellent quality especially this time of year) could have used a bit more seasoning but I'm not knocking the dish ...It's just my personal tastes I think.
For entrées I had a triggerfish served with a succotash of sorts. It was excellent. Fish cooked perfectly but the star was the veg it laid on. You can tell their efforts to use local and premium ingredients is working. My wife had the salmon...can’t really remember much about it other than that she loved it. It had some type of aoili cream sauce…which I'm not a fan of so I didn’t study it hah.
Too stuffed for desert, the excellent selection of micro brews helped with that.
We will be back...I've gotta try that Mac and cheese that’s on the menu. :)
