I have now eaten twice at Asheville's new Rosetta's Kitchen (downtown...as it heads out toward Merrimon, I forget the street name).
This is a very interesting spot. The interior design is ecclectic and modern with a really nice balcony area overlooking the street. It's only been open two or three weeks and was crowded on a Fri night. The crowds? well, I had just ridden my mountain bike 20 miles and washed up with a wet-one before heading out to dinner and yet I felt too old, affluent, and clean to fit in well. My blunt husband refered to the other diners as "street people". I rather enjoyed rubbing elbows with Asheville's tatooed and combat-booted youth.
At any rate, the food: Nothing to write home about, but if you are looking for honest, simple vegetarian fare, this is the place. Way cheaper than Laughing Seed. I've had the peanut butter tofu twice. It's apparently the specialty of the house. Also BBQ tempeh, smashed potatoes with vegan gravy, a goat cheese baguette, french fries and tortilla chips fried up to order,(salsa not very good, though) sauteed kale, fruit and green salad. Most everything is pretty good for what it is. Beer and (decent!)wine is available.
I recommend a visit for lunch if you like vegetarian food. The staff is very friendly even to people who are unpierced.
