Per request, PASTINA review

Pastina Trattoria on Westwood Blvd. south of Olympic Blvd. It was a rec from this board as well as Elmer Dills, so my hub and I spent our V-day dinner there.

We got there earlier than their 5:30 PM opening time, and there was a small crowd waiting to get in. The wide glass windows revealed a neat, medium sized restaurant with perfectly dimmed lights (not too dark with candles and spring flowers), and two of their managers playing poker (!) on a back table. However at 5:30 the all male staff were ready to roll. "Poker huh?" said one regular. "Welcome to Pastini's Las Vegas!" quipped the maitre d.

We ordered the antipasti misti, a fettucine a la franciscani (sp) in a light cream sauce, farfalle al salmone in a pink cognac sauce, and had a flavorful lemon pie for dessert. Decent portions, wonderful flavor at an affordable price (bill came to less than $50 for both of us). I would say that the farfalle was a bit too salty and heavy for our taste, but everything else, down to the fragrant oven baked bread was quite heavenly.

Although this restaurant scored low on "Romantic Environment" on other www sites, we found the opposite to be true. The place was 3/4 full while we were there, and yet the acoustics were good enough to allow an intimate chat. A very nice place for a date without throwing your wallet away.
