reporting back on Mendocino

I posted a message last week asking for Mendocino suggestions. Thanks to the 2 posters who answered me. One referred me to an earlier thread and I wanted to report back on my experiences. I had heard of Cafe Beaujolais and wanted to try it. Then I found out that it had changed owners awhile back and there seemed to be some opinions that it was not so good anymore. We were trying to decide what to do. When we got THREE unsolicited recommendations to go there we figured we better just go ahead and try it! Well, it turned out to be one of our best meals in awhile. We had heard raves about the sturgeon so we both ordered it. It was cooked perfectly (tender and juicy - no overcooking at all). It was served over pasta with a mix of mushrooms, beets, snap peas, and a delicious sauce. We had started with a appetizer of a crepe stuffed with rock shrimp and crab with chanterelle maushrooms and cherry tomatoes. It was sitting in a pool of yellow curry sauce. Both crepe and sauce were super. We sopped up all the extra sauce with the awesome bread (4 kinds were in our little basket). Dessert was warm gingerbread with caramel marscapone mousse and pear compote. Service was fine and we got a very good rec for champagne. All in all, we had a great experience there and would definitely go back. We also tried Mendo Burgers. Great burger, so-so chili fries. Lunch at the Mendocino Hotel was good. My crab and shrimp sandwich was yummy. Kind of like hot cheesy crab dip on good sourdough bread. Very rich, but I was in the mood for it.
