Reporting back on Kansas BBQ

Thanks for the tips fellow hounds. On our short visit to Kansas City, we were able to check out a few spots recommended here on this board. Our goal was tasty bbq joints since our home town (Toronto Canada) is seriously lacking in any good ones ;-)

Our first stop was Arthur Bryant’s. We ordered the ribs, the pulled pork and the brisket sandwich. The ribs were great, the meat was perfectly done with the almost fall of the bone quality that I like. The spicy sauce was my favourite of the three. The pulled pork was weak, too wet and bland for my liking. The brisket sandwich was good but nothing fantastic. Next we hit BB’s Lawnside (not much of a lawn nor a road either!). The sauce on their ribs was too sweet for me and the meat was tough. The onion rings (more like bracelets actually since they were gigantic) on the other hand were good. The batter was not too thick and the onion cooked nicely through. Then we checked out Vermont BBQ in Lawrence where we were staying. We picked up an order of ribs, pulled pork and brisket to take home. The pulled pork was very good but the brisket was too dry. We loved the hickory sauce that came with the ribs. It was a nice finish to the day. The next morning we drove back to KC to check out LC’s for lunch. The ribs were fantastic, perfectly smoked with just the right balance of smoke and vinegar in the sauce. The shaved pork was delicious and the brisket was amazing. LC’s was clearly the winner in our little bbq tour.

We’ll definitely stop at LC’s again the next time we come through and check out some other places (like Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joe’s) that we missed this time.
