We like to try places not yet or maybe never to be on the greatest hits for foodies lists and this one is less than a year old and seems to be flying under the radar so we went. It's a tiny little place that would have been lovely except that there were several parties on the sidewalk using all three of the open tables (tables half in and half out of the restaurant) for drinks and chain smoking cigarettes with the smoke blowing directly into the restaurant.

The dining room was virtually empty inside when we showed up for our 8:30 reservation so they gave us a choice of any table but no matter where we were in the very small dining room, the cigarette smoke was intense. After almost deciding to leave, they placed us at a very tiny table on the sidewalk (the only table actually on the side walk) on the other side of the doorway, farthest away from the smokers. It was lonely and a tight squeeze but we persevered and fortunately, by 9:00 PM, all but one smoking party had vacated so we moved back inside to a reasonably sized table not in the direct line of the remaining sidewalk chain smokers. Soon a few more folks showed up to dine as well, so the restaurant was half full by the time we began eating.

I’m happy to report that food was fabulous. I started with macaroni stuffed with artichoke, truffle, foie gras with Mornay and parmesan (gratiné.) Outrageously rich and delicious. Husband had razor clams a la marienare with a coriander pistou, also very delicious. Plates were perfectly roasted pigeon with fresh peas and rich jus and a beautiful saddle of lamb with puree of summer squash, tomato and basil. Both dishes were flawless. For dessert we shared a hot out of the oven “gateau de madelaine” with pistachio ice cream. With 2 glasses of very nice wine and a bottle of water the bill was 130E. I thought a great price for the quality of the food.

Go? If you don’t mind cigarette smoke while you’re dining or go in winter. Personally, I’d only go back when the weather was cold enough to insure the front was closed. Then, I’d definitely return for the fantastic food, lovely service and real heart.
