report of visit to Orange County

i posted a couple days ago re: critique of places that I was going to visit with the family in Orange County when we were going on vacation

i actually ended up going to orange county on last minute notice (costa mesa) for work so i decided to do some advance scouting, here's where i went:

Brodard's -- i saw some conflicting reports about this place but gave it a try, got the nem nuong rolls and the banh khot (shrimp cupcakes) and they were both delicious, so i went back the next day and got the banh xeo and this was delicious as well, everything was very fresh and flavorful and i didn't have any service problems, this may be due to the fact that i ate at this place at 3 PM on the two occasions I went and it wasn't very crowded

Hanoi Restaurant -- i arrived for dinner and got a table for 1, based on the posts i got the yam and shrimp fritters and the #1 on the specials, BBQ fish with dill on top; the yam and shrimp fritters were very good but it was just too much for 1 person, so i took the rest to my hotel room and ate them for breakfast! the fish dish was very good but it came with all this other stuff, i didn't really know what to do with the noodles, rice cakes, peanuts, and pickled vegtables in a sauce, so i just took the fish and wrapped it in lettuce and ate it. anyways, i really like this place and i would appreciate it if someone could chime in with more recs and also how to properly eat the fish dish

All I had time for was 2 lunches and 1 dinner. As a side note, i tried to go to shik do rak, but it was too crowded, required valet parking, and since i was a single person, didn't feel comfortable, i'll try going there next time

anyways, thanks for the tips everyone
