Report: Vietnamese and Tibetan in Middletown!

Uncledave | Jun 19, 2004 04:30 PM

I know they weren't there last year. I go to Middletown each summer to have breakfast at O'Rourkes before going to Lyman Orchards for berry picking.

Today I got to O'Rourkes too late - they close at 1:00 on Saturday - and I ate at the new Pho Mai Vietnamese Restaurant, 570 Main St. 860-347-0773.

Spring roll, Beef Pho, and a spicy chicken stirfry entree. All very nice and fresh for $17 total. Most telling, the pho broth was excellent. I'm going back. A few Veitnamese folks were eating there - I suppose there's a local community being served.

Also walked by the Tibetan restaurant, just a block north from Pho Mai. For at least 5 years now there's been a tibetan store on that corner selling rugs and furniture. Looks like they've expanded the empire, now featuring a full service restaurant, and they opened a dedicated rug store across the street.

I didn't eat there but walked in and saw what people were eating. I'm not a huge Tibetan food fan, but it seemed fine - the place was spotlessly clean. The chef from O'Rourke's was eating there, still in his greasy checks.
