Spent a few days in this area with 11 and 12 year old boys.

South Haven: Had dinner one night at Su Casa. Food was okay mexican. It's not even been a week and I can't remember that much about it. Nothing I'd go out of my way for. We had veggie burrito, pork burrito, and pork tostadas. Staff was very pleasant. Went every day to Sherman's for ice cream. It's out by the WalMart and chain hotels and the building has a big blue cow on the roof. The boys loved the yellow cake batter ice cream. I got the chocolate cake batter ice cream one night and french silk and Mackinaw island fudge the other nights. Wonderful place!

Saugatuck: Great cup of fair trade coffee at The Annex. Had dinner at Phil's as it was recommended by several locals. Appetizer of broasted chicken wings was awesome with a tasty asian-like brown sauce scattered with scallions. I got the fried lake perch and thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the al dente mixed veggies and twice baked cheesy potato. The boys got ribs and reported they were terrific. They didn't leave much meat on the bones.
One negative: We got there 30 minutes before one could order dinner (5:00 p.m.) so ordered the chicken wings to munch on. Our waitress sure had a bad attitude and after watching her with her other tables, I had to wonder if she assumed I wouldn't be a good tipper because I had kids with me so she didn't want to waste her time on us. She was creating a self-fulfilling prophecy as her rudeness to the boys and myself would have ensured a poor tip had not the dinner service brought us a new and delightful server.

Douglas: Saugatuck Brewing Company for lunch on their patio. A pleasurable and relaxing meal before hitting the road for home. Amber Ale Fish and Chips for myself and my son. The waitress was great and the kitchen subbed exquisite baby asparagus for my chips. Fish was perfectly done. Nephew had the pasta primavera and it seemed very heavy on artichoke hearts and light on other veggies. Not something I'd recommend especially when the fish was done so well.
