GF and I went to Rome to surprise my parents (and sister and niece) that were there for the week ( they did not know we were going to be there).
We did not really look for the "best of the best" and I wanted to re-live the exceptional time I had last time I was in Rome by showing places to my GF.
The weather was somewhat cold last week (except Friday and Saturday), so we did not linger long at terrasses; nor did I stop for coffee (except once at the overcrowded St-Eustachio, but the coffee was good, as well as the hot chocolate)
Because we were the the family, restaurant outings were somewhat limited.
Il Goccetto (Via dei Banchi Vecchi, 14) : I like the place and the vibe; cold cuts and cheese plate and wine, what to want more.
L'Angolo Divino (Via dei Balestrari, 12-14): GF wanted to try it after seeing a youtube video; _very_ nice selection of wine, small selection of food. I liked it, GF, a little bit less. I had a nice plate to pasta with almond pesto.
Cul de Sac (Piazza di Pasquino, 73): I liked the place, nice selection of wines; I had the tripes, and GF, some cold cuts.
Obika (Campo dei Fiori): Nice Stracciatella and mozzarella with some good Culatello.
Ombre Rosse (Piazza di Sant'Egidio, 12-13): Had a nice pasta dish last time, maybe a litlle bit disappointed this time around; we had Tonnareili all'amatriciana and carbonara; nicely served in clay dishes to keep them warn in a chilly-ish day.
Sorpasso (Via Properzio, 31/33): Food was good, but service was _really_ slow, and noise level unacceptable; All the family was there after visiting the Vatican museum; maybe because we were in a bad mood after visiting the museum with way so many people, and impossibly long lines to try to enter Saint Peter; the food was good though; gnocchi (Thursday) with ox-tail ragu and some pasta with aubergine.
Il Corallo (Via del Corallo, 11): We went there 3 times (2 lunch and a dinner); We loved the place, the service was good, the price and quality was there; pizza, pasta of all sorts ( including with black truffles!); nice hand cut prosciutto.
Urbana 47 (Via Urbana, 47): Quick lunch with Mozzarella on a green pea purée.
Coromandel (Via di Monte Giordano, 60): For early breakfast; toasts with really good home made nutella and fresh made juices.
We also ate at home with the family, 3 nights:
Fresh pan roasted mackerels.
Spaghetti Alle Vongole.
Simple Ravioli with butter sauce.
All the ingredients came from the (bigger in the inside) Carrefour express on Via del Governo Vecchio, 119 where they surprisingly have a really nice fish counter.
