Report on the reopened Carmelina's

cabbagehead | Dec 30, 2007 11:15 AM

After a wonderful restoration, Carmelina's in Hadley, MA has reopened. I was there recently with my husband for dinner on a week night. The new owner was gracious as she welcomed her guests.

The diningroom was quite crowded and noisy so that the guitar player could not be heard at all except for those sitting nearby.

The sesame-encrusted salmon I ordered was wonderful--cooked to perfection. The bed of rapini it lay on was probably my favorite part of the meal. Unfortunately, the 2 thick slices of roasted potatoes that accompanied the fish were COLD and hard.

Another big deficit in my mind is the quality of the rolls which were served. I have had the same kind of chewy, cardboard-tasting rolls at lesser places. What made these rolls especially unappealing is that they were COLD! Carmelina's ought to consider getting the kind of bread, from Iggy's, which is served at Spoleto.

The cheesecake I sampled was quite good.
