Plaza Garibaldi Mexican restaurant and nightclub.
The wife and I went last night aroud 7 PM for dinner- and were the only ones in the restaurant. We were a little skteched out at first. Apparently they were having a problem with the heater, as the main dining room was about 60 degrees. As we sipped our Mexican beer and tasy margaritas, a few more customers wandered in, so it was less uncomfortable.
Appetizer: Spicy meat tamale $5.50- we split it and it was big enough. Nice and hot, the cornmeal on the outside was nice and firm, and the sprinkling of shredded beef/pork in the middle was perfect.
Meals: Plato de Carnitas (13.99) chunks of BBQ beef, prok and chicken. The pork was a little fatty, the beef good, the chicken was nicely marinated and garlicy. Came with a side of rice, beans, and salad.
My wife had steak Tampiqueno. Traditionally prepared thin, crispy steak with a lot of butter and garlic. Also came with the same sides. (her's was 11.99)
We couldn't finish either one, as the portions were for about 2 people. As we finished, we enjoyed talking to the waiter, and walking aroud the beautifully decorated dining room. The tables had ceramic tiles imported from Dolores de Hidalgo, MExico. They were beautiful.
Spanish was definitely the language of preference among the waitstaff, and things went a little slower in English. Most of the customers there that evening were Spanish speaking. Before we left, we got a Mariachi serenade from the strolling performers. Very nice.
Would love to go back later in the evening when it fills up a bit. We'll do that next time.
