First, has anyone heard of Homegirls Cafe in Boyle Heights? I heard that it is really good, but haven't seen anything here about it.
Second, thanks to those who gave me suggestions for eating on Laguna Beach. (We were there right before the earth started sliding). I was a bit disappointed in the restaurants. I suppose it goes with the territory, but they felt a bit generic in general, so many we peaked into had the same long stemmed wine glasses, remodeled "classical" decor, uniformed staff and overpriced wine list.
Had a drink at surf+sand, and yes, the view was incredible.
Taco Loco was good but anglicized and thus pricy for a taco stand.
Zinc Cafe was very good, we went there both days for breakfast, It was bussling, and I have never seen so many real blonds before. Not a semetic face in sight (except mine). The few asians were dressed like royalty and we spotted a tv star -- the bad guy from Season 1 of 24, who pretends to be the father of Sutherland's daughter's friend (forgot all their names).
I was really disappointed with 5 feet. I had a shrimp noodle dish, which was gooie and sweet, and the shrimp were not so fresh (my friend said they were Hawaii style which,I suppose, I am not so crazy about.
Cafe Zoolu was my favorite place.Food was good and the atmosphere was nice and very comfortable.
Could just be that me and Laguna are not a good match.
