Restaurants & Bars

Report back from Kincaids in St. Paul

We finally used our gift certificate last Sunday to celebrate my passing the bar exam. We were pleasantly suprised after expecting typical chain fair.

My husband had the pepper steak and absolutely loved it. I had a special: Delmonico steak with blue cheese and onions. It was fabulous: so tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were good, but far too rich to have more than a few bites. He had the house salad, which was just OK. I ordered a special salad: spinach and MN tomatoes with a bacon dressing. It was also terrific.

Our server was fantastic and didn't charge us corkage either. (Thanks so much for the tip about bringing our own wine--it made the dinner so much better.) And she heard my husband congratulating me with a toast, so she brought us a free creme brulee.

We also loved the fact that the restaurant wasn't loud, and the tables were arranged so that we didn't feel crowded with the other dinners. (It was suprisingly busy for a Sunday night.)

I can't compare it to home-grown upscale places. We have been to Manny's, but it was many years ago. However, it was so much better than we expected.
