For our first night out in London we went to Isola after seeing the Lion King (which was simply wonderful). The bread basket was delicious but the menu was very limited as it was Valentine's day. We both chose a spaghetti with Dungeon crab for a starter and a grilled sea bass for main course. The speghetti was home made and had good texture and the creamy crab sauce has a lot of depth from roasted shellfish shells. But the whole thing did not seem very Italian nor anything special. The fish course was served with a VERY vinegary sauce. This was mouth puckering and too much for my wife. The fish was also a little dry. I did like it but again found it not being very Italian. The dessert was supposed to be a berry with zabablioni sauce but the berries had run out (they did tell us in advance) so it was mostly melons. Again just ok, and the fruit salad we had at Pret a Manger earlier in the day was higher quality. A strong point was the wine list, which has some really interesting wines. We chose a sampler of 5 Italian whites. All were very good and it was fun trying to find one that would work with the vinegar sauce. A Planeta from Sicily that was much heavyer than the other wines and a little smokey was the only one, and the best wine of the 5 overall. Also the experience was brought done because we got there at the end of the night and the service staff was in wind down mode and MANY of the tables were occupied by couples in their mid 20s where the male was VERY drunk and slobbering over their partner while their partner was trying to keep them at bay. My wife even said she got a little shock in the restroom hearing some younger girls scream about their partners. I feel we would need to go back a normal night to give Isola a fair review. But for us, the wine and bread where the only memorable parts this night.
