The designated Chow table was easy to pick-out as the only large, non-Asian group in New Fortunes smaller back room. The Gaithersburg restaurant had their main dining room closed-off and prepped for a special event (?NYE).
Our group of 7 hounds (Daniel K - organizer, Steve, Harold, PollyG, JamesG & guest) and one inspiring chowpup tasted great nibbles including: Sharks Fin, Beef Tripe, Steamed Pork Buns, Rice Crepe Noodle (yum, but slippery), Fun Gor (first time much like a cellophane spring roll), and Chicken Feet. Missed having duck feet, but it wasnt one of their almost 100 offerings. The sweet pastries we had were the Deep Fried Sesame Ball w/Lotus Seed Paste & Baked Pineapple Bun (wonderful & steaming hot).
Because the backroom's small, the carts were pretty frequent however we were kind-off cornered and all couldnt visualize the carts' contents.
This was my first Chowhound event and it was a true treat to have a good number of like-minded eaters at the table. Previous trips to New Fortune were limited by the courage and the number of my companions. The unexpected finding was that not all pups are like my niece (she survives on goldfish crackers and stovetop mac & cheese). I now know pups can be fierce carnivores.
New Fortune has their menu (Dim Sum, BBQ, etc.) on a cobwebby site noted below.
Thanks again for making feel welcome!
