Report on Dining Experiences in Gloucester/Cape Ann

I asked, several weeks ago, for guidance about having memorable meals while on a family vacation on Cape Ann.

Thanks to the advice of New England 'hounds, we had several truly memorable meals.

Here's a report.

The breakfast frittata at Willow Rest was delicious, as were the vegetables and other items we picked up here for dining in. Definitely a winner for us.

Market in Annisquam was memorable as well. Everything was delicious, though we did notice the difficulty of finding the place and the limited menu and wondered how sustainable that was as a marketing strategy.

We did not remember either of these being features of our dining experiences at Chez Panisse.

Alchemy in Gloucester was really good, definitely a place aspiring to high quality, lots of flavor, worth a second visit.

Sugar Magnolia's for breakfast in Gloucester was OK, and my crab cake Eggs Benedict was really tasty, but lots of things seemed heavy and not so flavorful. Overall this place was the one place that did not live up to expectations.

The hit of the trip, however, was Duckworth's, where the service was first-class, everything on the menu was truly delicious, and the overall experience was one of the best we had had anywhere. The idea of having so many items in both half- and full servings permitted us to sample widely on the menu, much to our delight.

This place is sets a high standard -- you folks on the North Shore have a treasure in Duckworth's.

Thanks again for all the good advice! We plan to return.
