Report: Bo's Barbecue in Lafayette

Made our way out to Lafayette yesterday to Bo's Barbecue. Being the only BBQ joint around that serves Niman Ranch meat, I was extremely curious to see if it was any good. Got there around 12:30pm and the place was pretty busy, but there were still some open tables open both inside and out.

We decided to split a 2 Combo meal consisting of Brisket and Ribs. With a bottle of soda the total came to around $20. The soda was a bit pricey at $2.50.

We were given a number and found ourselves a table. Fifteen or so minutes later our food arrived. A pretty large plate filled with 4 very large ribs and 4 or 5 hearty slices of brisket, and sided with scoop of potato salad, slice of ACME baguette, tiny portin of salad greens, 1/2 a baked yam, and some BBQ sauce.

Immediately upon seeing the brisket I knew that it was the real deal. It was moist and flavorful with a fair amount of fat marbling for melty goodness. The ends of the brisket were seriously seasoned, blackened and crusty from the smoker. This was by far the best smoked brisket I can remember eating anywhere. Of course, I've never been to Texas, but nonetheless, the brisket was superb. I'll definitely be heading back to eat some more of this.

The ribs were also tastey, tender, fall-off-the-bone good. They're a weird cut of rib which I haven't seen before. They just seemed really really long. Not the best ribs I've ever had, but still quite flavorful and juicy.

The BBQ sauce was a bit sweet and nothing special. It did seem to grow on me the more I ate it. Although next time I'm definitely going to bring my own bottle of hot sauce to kick it up a bit. And I'll definitely be ordering my own dish of that great smoked brisket next time.

They also had a really great selection of bottled beers including many fine Belgian varities, such as Fantome, which is rather hard to find. Another big plus.

They have lunch and dinner hours and are closed in between. I believe that lunch service ends at 2:30, and dinner begins at 5:00, but please call to confirm.
