Replacement for Terroir in the East Village

tazerowe | Mar 6, 201509:12 AM

I'm starting to realize what a loss Terroir in the East Village is, as it was really a convenient "local" where my wife and I would start and/or end almost any night out. Can anyone suggest a good replacement? To really fit, it needs to be something within, say, a 10-minute walk of the old Terroir location (12th and 1st Ave). The wine list needs to be interesting, have plenty of by-the-glass options and change frequently. Natural wines are a plus, but not required. Shouldn't be big corporate wineries, however. Good food is nice, but not required - snacks are more important. Not someplace where you need to have a reservation or eat a full meal.

Things I've considered: The Ten Bells is perfect but too far south. All of the other Terroir branches are too far, too. Jimmy's is OK, but more of a beer / cider spot without the wine depth. There are plenty of beer spot (Proletariat, Jimmys, etc.) Donostia is useful, but doesn't have the variety of wines. The Terroir replacement, 50 Paces, is more food focused, with a much more narrow wine list that I suspect will change less often. Veloce could go back into the rotation, but the list there always seemed a bit narrow. Same thought on Pata Negra.

What am I missing.

Terroir on the Porch,
Terroir Tribeca,
The Ten Bells,
Jimmy's Diner,
