The One -- Reno

After months of acusing Steve Timko of making this place up, and when I found myself on Virginia St. at lunch time, I decided I was going to find this place no matter what. So I parked and walked....I can see why its hard to find: the restaurant shares an awning and large display windows with the pawn shop...and has no real sign of its own, other than on the windows.....So if you're driving by you would think there's just a pawnshop there (Just go to the Southeast corner of Virginia and Fifth street and walk south a half block...). Anyway, tried three of the dim sum choices: sticky rice in lotus leaf, sui mai, and "beef-vegetable ball." The rice was my favorite, but then again it usually is. The sui mai didn't taste all that fresh....(like maybe it had been reheated?) which may not be surprising considering the place was empty at 1pm. Beef-vegetable ball was good....steamed meatballs that had bits of veggie (spinach? leeks?) and water chestnut in them. It was served with a dipping sauce: took me about three bites to realize it was mostly worcestershire sauce! Anyway, would love to go back with a group sometime so we can try more of the choices. The RGJ had an article in the food section yesterday about XaioLong Bao (sp?) and mentioned that this restaurant serves them on weekends with advance notice. Would love to try them sometime. Also, I noticed that the regular menu has a number of interesting items not always found in the typical Chinese places here in Reno...cold jelly fish, fried squab, shark's fin soup, among others. Would love to get Yimster up here sometime for a chowdown and to help me with menu items I didn't recognize.....
