A few times in the last week, a thread has popped up on the LA board asking (paraphrasing the general case) "Does anybody remember (dear departed restaurant of blessed memory) in (LA neighborhood)?"
We almost always delete these threads, and would like to take a few minutes to explain why and ask for everyone's cooperation in NOT generating more of them -
Chowhound's mission is to help everybody eat better right now, today. Nostalgia threads are or at least can be fun and chatty, but they often wind up taking a lot of space and diluting Chowhound's effectiveness at its primary mission.
Instead of taking a stroll down memory lane, please tell us about the great new (or new to you) still-in-business restaurant you've found--or the one exceptional dish at an otherwise blah little joint that made the whole trip worthwhile. Hot, current chow tips are what make the board thrive and make Chowhound the great resource we all know and love.
Thanks for understanding. All for the greater Chow good!
