Regional, sit-down Mexican reccos for the parental units

Dear San Diego Hounds:

On Jan 22, I spent several hours scouring your v. interesting board for recommendations that fall into the post name category. I *thought* I sent the info I gleaned to my mum, for her and dad's upcoming layover in your lovely city on their way to Panama. Turns out, that was not only a figment of my fevered imagination but I can't even find the cut and pastes I gathered -- I think my laptop ate them :-(. So I'm throwing myself (and them) on your mercy, as they are going to be there on Friday and I don't have time to re-research.

They have spent a fair amount of time in all parts of Mexico, are not afraid of heat/spice, and appreciate the A word (authenticity) so not too interested in fusiony options. Food is definitely the focus, not alcoholic beverages. And if super difficult for resos, or a place where there are typically huge waits, may not be useful given the short time frame. They don't care if it's a hole in the wall but would like somewhere they can sit as they are, shall we say, not young. They will be dining with one other couple so a place that can handle a party of four is needed. Thanks in advance for any ideas you have time to offer, and apologies for the lame post.
