Reading all the reports on the board about Refuge really made me drive out to San Carlos during rush hour.
It was worth it! It's a good Reuben. I don't even like rye bread and I enjoyed this sandwich. It's $16 so pretty pricey, but you won't find this quality of pastrami just anywhere. Rye bread is nicely grilled, tender pastrami, sauerkraut, & cheese. All together it was a tasty eat. Comes w/ a small scoop of potato salad I thought was boring & a huge, fat pickle -just ok.
Black cherry Wishniak soda (house-made) $3 is still just a boring soda. I'll stick to tap water.
They also have: appetizers, hot pastrami, burgers, cheesesteaks, charcuterie & cheese, desserts, wine, beer, soda, coffee, tea.
I ate at the bar area. Some outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant.
They take credit cards, it was $19.48 before tip for me.
One unisex bathroom in the back was clean when I used it.
Closed Mon. Nice to go there before the Thurs. evening Farmers Market which is back as of 5/1/08.
San Carlos Farmers Market is a good size. I should have bought some strawberries from Medina Berrys Farms, Watsonville. They looked the best. 3 pk for $8
asparagus looked good. $2.75 for skinny ones, $3.75 for short, fat ones.
Greenlee's cinnamon bread was there. I love their cinnamon bread.
Harmony frozen yogurt:
They now have raspberry flavor. Just ok, I like the original flavor better.
Kid size is $2 which I got with 2 toppings $1.75 = total $3.75
I picked mochi & strawberry w/ the original flavor.
They also have a dark chocolate sauce I didn't try. New also is the stamped card to get a free small yogurt w/ topping after you buy 10 things. You can also buy gift certificates.
