Refried Beans

Hi, how can I get my refried beans to be the consistency of taqueria beans? I'm assuming lard. So do you add the fat in and just stir it to incorporate it, or is there some other method. Also, could I use a healthier fat source and still get tasty, creamy, smooth beans? Should I dilute them some with broth and put them in the blender? Thanks for any advice, C-
