Last month I stopped off in San Rafael to caffeinate on my way north. Red Whale has a coffee bar and lounge in front of its roasting facility. I ordered a Cortado. When I saw the barista reach for the paper cup, I repeated that I was having my coffee "here" and asked for a real cup. Sad to say, no such thing in use at the coffee bar, only disposables. The cute red mugs, espresso cups, and other logo goods depicted on its website, facebook page and instagram feed are not used to serve coffee drinks here.

The cortado had lovely syrupy mouthfeel. But it tasted dirty and moldy, not unlike the TCA taint in a corked wine.

Other experiences here?
