Just talked with a friend in the business upriver and he says his shop is getting their next bags of oysters from Virginia...so Texas is "out" apparently. Another friend said he could get oysters on the west of the Miss. River but they would be tiny. Can't blame anyone whose shop relies on steady oyster products for reaching to the East Coast...Local stuff might be fine already but, at Xms, who is around in the office to process the tests and get the word out. Smart proactive move. Not heard about mega-dealers like Acme but I suspect inquiries of their oyster tags will show foreign products for the next week or two.
Well, hell, Louisiana and Texas provide an enormous amount of Maryland Crab, including softshell, so why not?
