Red vs Prime 112 south beach

tpigeon | Feb 1, 200905:29 AM     7

To sum up P112 was much better and sides and starters Red is much better at steak.

Red - far superior steak - the porterhouse is probably the best steak now south of bourbon st (the restauraunt which I have not been able to make it to yet). I won't bother comparing it to P112's steak so I will compare it to the ribeye at sardinia.

The ribeye at sardinia gets points for better char, but in the end, the superior quality of the meat at red gives it a slight advantage in my book. Keep in mind I am comparing a ribeye to a porterhous though...I did not have the ribeye at red.

P112 - destroys red on the starters I had - shrimp cocktail (great but much more expensive than red - red I would not recommend it right now as it is very average, though they say they are changing the shirmp soon btw). Onion soup - not even close. P112 is a whole other level. I would not bother getting onion soup at red.

Sides - P112 winner because nothing is as good as the mac & creamed corn, and sweet potatoes. However, the creamed spinach and gratin potatoes are better at red.

Desserts, I have not had dessert at P112 in a while but from memory I give the slight edge to P112 except that P112's desserts are richer to me. The desserts at Red seem lighter. I had carrot cake (very good) - with a small amount of pinapple sorbet (this was excellent and the best part of all the desserts). Molten cake - would not bother getting again very average - doughnut holes 3 dipping sauces - very good and surprisingly light. If I get dessert again though I go straight for the sorbet -- I am not generally a huge fan but theirs were really good. I was voted down on creme brulee so I can't say anything about that...
