Red Moon Cafe (Vietnamese on National near Sawtelle)

I went to Red Moon Cafe, a Vietnamese place on National near Sawtelle. It being on the west side, I was expecting someplace upscale and kind of artificial. So I was surprised that it was actually scruffy-in-a-good-way, with concrete floors and a pleasantly shambling waiter. The menu is mostly Vietnamese with a few standard Americanized Chinese dishes like kung pao chicken. I got the crystal rolls with shrimp and the lemongrass chicken. As usual with Vietnamese rolls, the best part was the sauce, here a peanut sauce. And they did have some flavors. Yet overall they were good but not great. The lemongrass chicken had a range of good vegetable flavors but was really lacking in lemongrass kick. It too was good but not great. I might go back if others can report that the soups are good or something, but regrettably I probably wouldn't go back otherwise.
