Red Dog Cafe

Stay away! My wife and I were looking forward to a quick dinner at this popular Silver Spring eatery but found the service appalling. It all began with filthy water glasses. (My wife asked for another glass and it was even worse.) Our waiter took our order quickly but then disappeared. Twenty minutes later, still no food. (This is a cafe; how long does it take to produce cole slaw and a sandwich?) We then complained and the manager returned with complimentary soup because the waiter forgot to call in our order! Temporarily satisfied, we waited another twenty minutes (this must be the increment of choice at Red Dog) for the entrees to arrive. (The food was mediocre given the hype.) To top it all off, we had to wait, you got it, twenty minutes for someone to notice we were trying to pay our bill. Our waiter never returned! Servers will make mistakes occasionally, but one would expect an apology and extra effort, not complete abandonment. We hoped this was an anomaly but noticed three other couples looking equally exasperated when we left. The owner might want to spend more on training and less on trendy decor.
