Well I have to do some work at the courthouse for a few weeks and am looking for suggestions.
So far I have tried Max's Opera Cafe. Had an awesome reuben sandwich that made 2 meals for me.
I also went to the little Vietnamese sandwich shop down the street for great $2.25 Vietnamese sandwiches. Very good, especially for the price.
Also tried the Golden House Vietnamese restaurant. Had a big order of shrimp/asparagus in black bean sauce with lots of rice and fresh lemonade. It was just shrimp and asparagus, which was a little unexpected. The bathroom is through the kitchen which can be an interesting trip. The lemonade was very nice.
There is also the California Culinary Academy around the street. I talked to some of the students in training and they didn't particularly recommend the schools restaurant. They did recommend an old and famous oyster restaurant about 8 blocks up Polk and the Greek restaurant across the street. A bit of a hike but I'll head up there next.
