I’ll be in Paris for the month of October, and thought it would be a good time to explore some food options I have no familiarity with. One in particular is the cooking from Sub-Saharan Africa. The reason this thread is “Part 2” is: there was a great thread started in 2011 with this title, with a couple of additional posts in 2015. Here’s a link to that thread:
These restaurants, like so many, come and go all the time, so I thought it might be time to get an updated picture of what’s what.
From a Ptipois post back then, she listed 12 restaurants she could recommend. Of these, only half are still in business: Waly Fay, Babylone Bis, Rio dos Camaroes (in Montreuil), Fifa, L'Ile de Goré, and (apparently still going) Le Bamboutus. Two others were mentioned in the thread, Le Manguier (still open), and Le Nioumbre (closed).
I said “only half,” but come to think about it, seven out of 14 still open after seven years is a pretty good percentage.
Also in the original thread, Ptipois has a wonderfully informative list of dishes from these restaurants.
I have not done much research, but two others have caught my eye (don’t know anything about either): Les Délices du Sacré-Coeur on Rue Clignancourt in the Goutte d’Or, and Le Petit Dakar in the Marais.
At this time, I’m thinking about going to three of these, with Babylon Bis a near certainty, and possibly Les Délices du S-C. The latter because it is nearby to Sape & Co (a mens clothing store which seems to be the unofficial headquarters of les sapeurs) which I’d like to visit, and the former for the poulet braisé.
BUT, I am open to suggestions and other recommendations. Thanks in advance.
