Recommendations for NY CH-er visiting Del Mar / San Diego

saregama | Jul 15, 2017 03:03 PM

Visiting friends who live in Del Mar for a week in the fall.

Request recommmendations for lunch / dinner places in the vicinity.

On past visits, we have been to and loved Cucina Enoteca, Prep Kitchen, Addison, Jimmy Carter's, and a few I can't recall (a Mexican-ish brunch place in mission hills not far from the airport, a fried chicken/sandwich place in a similar area)

2 vegetarians in the group, which is often a challenge especially at Mexican places (even when there are veg choices, the beans are often cooked with lard), so places that have strong vegetarian choices are a strong plus.

My friends (NY transplants) say they have yet to find Chinese or Thai or Indian or even Mexican (recall vegetarian filter here...) food that compares, which I find had to believe... so recommendations on those fronts would be highly appreciated as well.

SO:
- Delicious
- Casual (ignore Addison)
- Vegetarian-friendly is a MUST
- Ethnic of all types (especially Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Indian, Middle eastern)
- Pizza that's Cucina-delicious but more casual / takeout / less expensive

Also, any recommendations for ethnic markets and small grocery / specialty purveyor favorites in del mar and surroundings.

THANK YOU!

CUCINA enoteca Del Mar,
Jimmy Carter's Mexican Cafe
