My husband and I will be doing a 4 day road trip in the Basque Country this September. The food sounds incredible but we are on a budget, preferably less than 30 euros per person for dinner without wine. I have plenty of pintxos recommendations for San Sebastian but am looking for recommendations for the other locations, particularly if there is a good spot to get fresh grilled fish. (Sadly, Elkano is way out of our budget.)
Day 0: Pick up rental car in Bordeaux in the afternoon. Drive to Bayonne.
Day 1: Bayonne and vicinity
Day 2: Bayonne to Saint Jean de Luz to Bilbao
Day 3: Bilbao
Day 4: Bilbao to San Sebastian to Bordeaux. Overnight in Bordeaux before returning to Paris on 06:00 train next morning.
Also, is there time for a visit to a cider house (sagardotegi) somewhere along the way?
