I posted a while back looking for suggestions on the Beara peninsula, in the south west of IReland. Have just returned, and while I didn't find anything spectacular (the fancy places people recommend in Kenmare I found disappointing - general rule was, simpler the better), I'd definitely recommend staying/stopping at the Clooney Lake Inn (or the Inn at Clooney Lake), which is not far west from Kenmare, on the main Beara road. Small roadside inn with restaurant and pub attached, very cozy, not fancy, had very simple pan-fried plaice, remarkably fresh (with the ubiquitous side of chips) and lightly done. Homemade brown and rye breads extremely good(and had great homemade scones and tea after coming in from a 15 mile hike). Traditional Irish breakfast also well done.
