Looking for Recipe: Pork ribs that are 1st marinated in juice remaining from pickles, maybe Japanese recipe?

I met someone at a party who told me about his wifes' amazing pork ribs. She saves the juice from pickles and uses it to marinate the ribs then does what....., I don't know. I didn't get clear details. But, damn, this has stuck in my head as something to try and now I have juice from pickles, pickled onions and olives. Does this ring a bell to anyone? I believe his wife is Japanese and could be a family recipe. thanks
