When do you think a recipe becomes your own?

At what stage of doctoring/altering/combining a recipe do you think it becomes your own? I'm thinking of things like soups where there are infinite ways of tweaking a fairly standard formula. Perhaps the first time you made the dish you followed a recipe but each time you changed a little bit more so that it doesn't resemble the original too much (except perhaps that they both have veggies and stock etc)...
