Receiving a gift certificate to a Philly restaurant...where to go?

Eva and Ziv | Jul 22, 2005 10:23 AM

A colleague would like to give me a gift certificate to a Philly restaurant of my choosing. I don't know how much the cert will be, but I'm guessing no more than $50. I'd like for that amount to cover 75% of the bill for 2 people, if possible, but 50% would be ok, too. (I'm broke! And also, I don't want to ask for Le Bec Fin and make this poor guy feel like he needs to spend a lot.)

So, where should I go? I like almost any cuisine (minus Chinese), but my favorites are New American and French (yes, I realize the problems with the first term and the difficulty of findind "real" French in Philly). I love White Dog and Nan. Area of the city is not a concern. I like a sophisticated-casual atmosphere. BYO or not doesn't matter.

My thoughts right now include Pif, Matyson, and Marigold, though I'm open to anything. Ideas, anyone? TIA!
