Recap of 1st trip to Montreal

Thursday went to La Marivaude. My liver was fantastic; my wife's veal was good. We had an excellent scallops appetizer and good wine by the glass. The service was excellent. Place was not crowded and our infant was able to crawl around a small amount, which helped a lot. Highly recommended.

Friday lunch was mussels in cream leek sauce at Steak Frites. We found it by following some lawyers leaving the Palais of Justice. Quite good and a lucky find in the "old" town.

Friday dinner was Ferreira. My seafood and rice was very good; my wife's steak was the best she's ever had. The salads were very good and the Portuguese house red was excellent. Service was lively. This was very crowded and half the people were trendy, so we had somewhat less cooperation from our baby!

Saturday lunch was Schwartz's. We smartly waited until 14:30 so the wait was no problem. Their famous smoked meat sandwich is like a cross between corned beef and pastrami and the bread was unremarkable rye. Our expectations were higher than the delivery on this one.

Tried poutine in the afternoon. OK.

Saturday dinner was Au Petit Extra. My ray with vanilla sauce was excellent; my wife's mackeral was very good. Service was excellent. The wine recommendation was appropriate for the mild dinners, and the hazelnut cake was also great.

Montreal is a great town for eating!
