Rec on solid "not fancy" Ryokan in Kyoto that might surprise also with food ?

oferl | Dec 16, 201401:10 AM     6

I'm also checking past posts, but would appriciate getting input on nice "budget friendly" solid places with good location, the most important, and then having maybe a surprising dinner option might be a plus, but not that necessary :-)
Budget i think is around 15000-180000 JPY, altough i'm not sure i will be able to find something "real good" at that mark, so might stretch it a bit if needed..

And on the same note for accomodation - is a short term apartment rental is reasonable direction and popular in Kyoto and Tokyo ? Always an option we look for abroad, which gives possibility of light cooking and exploring interesting ingridients, but somehow i don't see it mentioned on this board and in general for Japan. Thanks..
