The first time I went to Q I was not really that impressed...but last night changed my mind for good. We have been to Q a handful of times now as it is one of the only affordable non-Asian places in this neck of the woods, and sometimes (not often) I don't feel like Pho. The standards that we order are the grilled meatloaf, the fried chicken and the fish tacos. All of these standards are good, comfort food experiences. The fish tacos are excellent. The burger has also made a pass through our dining experience. One word of warning. We got the calamari once, worst I have had in a while...won't order those again. The garlic fries however, are an inspiration!
So as of last night I have decided that I really, REALLY like Q. It is definitely somewhere that adds a ton to this diverse neighborhood. Anyway, on to the eats. Last night I tried one of their specials...it was Sambal Oelac (sp?) rubbed flank steak served with a cilantro basil sauce over mashed sweet potatos with baby bok choy. Steak was ordered medium rare and came out absolutely perfect. I can say with no hesitation that this was one of the most flavorful (both the sambal AND the meat flavors) steaks I have had in a while. At 13.50 (I think) it was a bargain. The bok choy was just ok, but the sweet potato mash was also inspired...a great combination. Hope this preparation stays on the "Specials" menu for a while!
